Pant-Y-Gwydr is an hidden gem in the centre of Swansea. It is a family run restaurant that serves authentic french food. It is one of our favourite place to go for a special occasion due to its high standards both in terms of service and food.
Booking can be made by phone or email that can be found on their website: https://www.pantygwydr.com/
Location
The restaurant is placed in a very peculiar location, in a residential area in the outskirt of Swansea City Centre. It is common for people to miss it unless you know of its existence and are planning a visit.
The restaurant does not offer parking and due to it being in a residential area, it requires a bit of “luck” to find the perfect spot, but due to its center location, it is very accessible by local transport of Taxi.
The restaurant present itself as a converted house painted in a very traditional colour for a sea-side city in South Wales.

The inside of the building is very welcoming, with a lot of the original feature still being visible. The restaurant is very spacious and tables have enough space between them to be able to have some privacy and enjoy your special moments.
The atmosphere is very lovely, mainly thanks to the owner kindness and professionalism that spread through all staff members.
Service
There are many points that makes this restaurant one of the best in Swansea, but the service is surely one of the main strength. The owner of the restaurant is a lovely french lady, that with her calm and extreme elegance is able to make your meal special. It may be the way you get welcomed, the assistance to ensure that you are well seated or the care with which each plate is placed on your table that makes the service impeccable.
During the years we had a chance to try both lunch time and evening meals, and we would recommend a lunch experience if you want to enjoy the best service experience as evening tent to be more busy.
The food is freshly prepared, so this may take some time to be prepared, but it is nothing to worry about, because while you wait for your food you will be presented with some lovely canapés to start and warm up your taste buds.

Menu
The menu is a true representation of the french cuisine. It is very clear, priced very well to align with the quantity and quality of the food ordered and it changes seasonally.
The menu includes a good variety of food that suits every taste, and will always include some french classics like “French onion soup” or “Boeuf bourguignon”. What We personally like about this menu it is that the sides are as exciting as the main ingredient itself. Most of the meals are accompanies by unique sides like unusual vegetables combination, homemade sauces or even homemade potato crips.

You will certainly take your time to choose your meal. The best past of the menu is the dessert. These come as “trio” including 3 different homepage dessert that follow a particular “theme”.
Taste
If reading about the menu has made you hungry, the wait is surely worthwhile. The food not only taste as good as you would have expected, but it is also very well presented.
The portion are quite large for what a gourmet restaurant and we have always struggled to be able to have three full courses. This makes the trio of dessert the perfect choice to be shared.

Price
The Pant-Y-Gwydr is not a location for every day, but more suited for special celebrations like birthdays or anniversary. The price of the meals are what you would expect to pay for the quality and service that you receive.
A meal with a glass of wine would cost around 50£ per person (given the fact that you will probably share the dessert!)
